The Hirschgstemm has been providing hikers with food and drink since it opened in 1963. It owes its name to the fact that deer used to be fed here. After all, the Lainzer Zoo looks back on a centuries-long tradition as a hunting area for the Habsburgs. It has been owned by the City of Vienna since 1937 and is only hunted to protect the forest from browsing.
The rest house is located at 407 meters above sea level and can be reached in half an hour on foot from Laaber Tor. You can relax with a cold beer and a crispy schnitzel and, with a bit of luck, watch wild boars. In addition, the fenced playground ensures happy children and relaxed parents.
